It could be a modernized version of a more traditional fable, or it could be something completely new about a talking tree and a talking car that fall in love. Additionally, the students will independently write their own fables to transform the lesson's material and apply it using their own creativity while developing their writing skills. Together as a class, list ideas for morals. Phase I — Follow the direction steps outlined in the formative assessment section above. The teacher should inform students that note-taking is necessary in order to complete a formal writing assessment to ensure all students are copying down important information. Students' necessary prior knowledge includes the students having read the classic novel Animal Farm by George Orwell with discussion at an academic level. Before beginning the chart, the teacher should go over each column and the process of filling out the chart completely using details from the fables. The teacher should read "The Tortoise and the Hare" first, since it is one of the most well-known fables.
